Federal State Unitary Enterprise of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy Economics and Information Research Institute was founded in accordance with the decision of the Government on the basis of the Institute "Tsvetmetinformatsya". The "Giredmet" institute's economic prognostication department of the branch developement, the material resources regulation department of "Giprotsvetmet" institute were also included into a structure of the formed institute, as well as labour management laboratories of scientific-research and design institutes those are part of Federal State Unitary Enterprise of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy Economics and Information Research Institute.
The Institute's main research directions:
The metallurgical complex development prognosis (machinery and technologies, social and economical problems, separate companies' development programs, resources-consuming productions comparative analysis)
World and domestic non-ferrous markets development analysis (market state and prognosis of the non-ferrous metals market, major consumers' branches estimation)
Companies' production activities analysis and finding the ways to increase non-ferrous metals production efficiency, including taxation and price formation questions
Perfecting economic and financial management structure of the Russian metallurgical complex under conditions of different patterns of ownership
Increasing the efficiency of using the raw material, economic, fuel and energy resources in non-ferrous metals production
Finding solutions to the problems of nature management and preservation of the environment in the branch (including environmental activities economic analysis and prognosis, working out and renewing ecological standards)
External economic activities (branch analysis, problems connected with terms and problems of Russia's entering the World Trade Organization)
Information distribution and propaganda of scientific and technical achievements (editing and publishing "Tsvetnaya metallurgia"/"Non-ferrous metallurgy" journal)
The institute conducts economic researches for administrative bodies, non-ferrous metallurgical plants and the related branches.
Economic researches those are being carried out for the Ministry mainly consist of prognosis; they determine the Russian metallurgical industry development strategy and structural reforms, estimate the internal, CIS and world metallurgical raw material market development.
The research results are used to:
make reasonable administrative decisions;
develop non-ferrous metallurgy development strategy from the position of Russia's economical security;
determine main R and D work directions;
form exports-imports policy;
define measures to render support to the plants;
application of innovative management techniques;
application of the branch standards according to the non-ferrous metallurgy main resources consumption norms;
find solutions to current tasks in non-ferrous metallurgy development;
make reasonable nature management decisions.
Economic researches for iron and steel works mainly concern their economic and production activities analysis, structural reforms, taxation, investing feasibility studies, nature management economical techniques.
As far as information supply is concerned, the Institute provide the administrative bodies, plants, expert of the non-ferrous and related branches with information helping to popularize scientific and tehnical achievements:
Editing and publishing various reviews, books, reference books, etc.
Editing and publishing "Tsvetnaya metallurgia"/"Non-ferrous Metallurgy" journal
Create both Russian and foreign non-ferrous metallurgical plants' technical and economical work indexes data bases
